I have experience working with people who have the common issue of impulse control. Whether the impulse control (anxiety) is around food, alcohol/ drugs, shopping or choosing negative and unhealthy relationships, my experience lies in helping people manage what they think they want and accepting what is real and true for them in life. I have worked for Santa Clara County’s Perinatal Substance Abuse Program since 2002, treating pregnant women and new mothers with substance abuse and dependence problems. I specialize in methadone maintenance during pregnancy, as well as other non-opiate drug and alcohol problems in women who are pregnant/parenting young children. Most of my clients suffer from anxiety and depression and are going through the life transition of becoming parents.
In addition to my substance abuse training with the County of Santa Clara, I have also received further training in working with eating disorders/disordered eating from JFK University. This additional course work has helped expand my understanding of the different ways addictions manifest as well as treatment options and ways to facilitate a client’s movement towards health. I am now a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS)
I am interested in women’s health and in treating the complex bio-psychosocial process of substance abuse and dependence, as well as attachment and trauma. Prior to obtaining a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University, I worked as a marketing professional for IBM, followed by a similar position for a small Internet start-up company. I have served on the SCV-CAMFT Board of Directors as Membership Chair, President Elect, President and Past President.
